Theme: A timeline of Preparation and Execution
About us.
We are a group of six from the Diploma in Mass Communication in Republic Polytechnic, collaborating with People's Association (PA) and we are tasked to cover the Japanese Association's (JAS) performance for Chingay 2017 as part of our module.

About Chingay.
The Chingay Parade is an event that occurs every year during the Chinese New Year period in celebration with the birthdays of the Chinese deities. Chingay in both Chinese words, "真艺" as well as "妆艺" translate to "A decorated stage" in English. The first Singapore Chingay Parade was held on February 4, 1973.

With numerous three-hour practices a week since October 2016, the performers of the Chingay parade never had it easy. “Rehearse, perform, repeat.” This was how it was for the performers representing the Japanese Association, Singapore (JAS) as they prepared for Chingay 2017.

"On both days of the rehearsals, we were all present to cover Chingay, it rained and shined. Even though it was tiring, the show still went on. Witnessing how everyone was striving to do their best despite the uncooperative weather warmed my heart. Chingay was an eye-opener and I'm utterly grateful to be able to be a part of this."

"It was an eye-opening experience to what field work as a real reporter would be like in the future. I'm glad to have been given this opportunity."

"It was a very enriching experience for me especially on the second day as it was raining. Even so, I managed to have a taste of what journalism is about and how one should proceed on with the work even though the environment was a challenge."

"Chingay was definitely an insightful experience for me. It was my first Chingay and I really enjoyed the opportunity to cover the event."

"It was different watching Chingay up front at the event instead of watching it through the TV screen. Even though there were a number of struggles, I am happy to have experienced covering Chingay with my team. We laughed, we whined and most importantly, we grew."
